Here are some results from an ALFA poll of Senate District 10 that have come our way. Democratic incumbent Larry Means is being challenged by Republican Phil Williams, who is not to be confused with the Republican state Representative Phil Williams in House District 6.

From the email that originated with John Pudner, the Director of External Affairs for the Alabama Farmers Federation:

In a year in which many incumbents are struggling, Means’ poll results are excellent.

Right now he defeats Phil Williams 61% to 25%. Most incumbents are below 50% this year, and many are below 40%.

Means’ numbers are very strong, with 55% having a favorable impression of you, and only 9% an unfavorable – so your ratio is 6:1 (anything from 3:1 or higher is excellent).

There has been a large shift toward people considering themselves Republicans this year, but in this case it is just a lot fewer people considering themselves Democrats. Even though I calculate this district as 53% to 47% Democrat from past elections, right now 32% consider themselves Republicans, 26% Democrats and 42% Independents. Obviously this year independent credentials are very important. Almost all of Williams 25% of the vote is people who just plan to vote for all Republicans this year.

This Senate seat is one that Republicans have hoped would be a pickup opportunity for them.
